"Our Grantmaker Information directory comprises three broad categories: links, both direct and annotated, to more than 600 grantmaker Web sites; highlights and excerpts from the Center's research on foundation giving; and a range of informational materials produced by individual foundations and hosted by the Center as part of its "Foundation Folder" program.

Winning Strategies for Developing Grant Proposals  "As the competition for federal and private sector grant dollars grows ever more intense, it becomes increasingly important for grantseekers to present potential funders with a persuasive, thorough and well-written grant proposal. Whether you are seeking support for a community-based adult literacy program, an environmental restoration project or a shelter for the homeless, Winning Strategies for Developing Grant Proposals is designed to help you increase your chances of writing a successful grant application.

"This 90-page book will take you step by step through the grantseeking process, offering advice and information from grantseeking experts on topics such as researching potential funders, writing a project narrative and approaching federal and private sector grantmakers. To give you an idea of what works in the field of grantseeking, Winning Strategies for Developing Grant Proposals also includes samples of actual award-winning proposals that were submitted to federal and private funders. In another chapter of the book, you will discover why some proposals fail and learn about some of the most common mistakes made by grantseekers.

"In the book you will also find a checklist of Do's and Don'ts that can be a handy reference when you are writing a grant proposal. Also included are lists of resources that can help you find out more information about federal agencies, corporate and foundation grantmakers, and current grant opportunities...."  Cost: $59.00

Start with Grantsnet's Roadmap

Developing and Writing Grant Proposals
"A successful grant proposal is one that is well-prepared, thoughtfully planned, and concisely packaged. The potential applicant should become familiar with all of the pertinent program criteria related to the Catalog program from which assistance is sought. Refer to the information contact person listed in the Catalog program description before developing a proposal to obtain information such as whether funding is available, when applicable deadlines occur, and the process used by the grantor agency for accepting applications. Applicants should remember that the basic requirements, application forms, information and procedures vary with the Federal agency making the grant award.

"Individuals without prior grant proposal writing experience may find it useful to attend a grantsmanship workshop...."

Catalog of Federal Domestic
Assistance is a Great Starting Point for Federal Funding

"The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has approximately 300 grant programs, most of which are administered in a decentralized manner by several agencies. HHS does not have a single publication that describes all HHS grant programs. Instead, we use the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA). The Catalog, compiled and maintained by the General Services Administration (GSA), profiles all Federal grant programs, including HHS programs and lists a specific contact for obtaining additional information and application forms. It also includes a helpful section on writing grant applications. You should consult the CFDA to find the Federal programs of interest to your organization.

"Government-wide summary of financial and non-financial Federal programs, projects, services, and activities that provide assistance or benefits to the American public administered by departments and establishments of the Federal Government."

Search the Entire CFDA Catalog Online by a variety of criteria including key word.
