League of Pissed Off Voters

Black Box Voting "... has taken the position that fraud took place in the 2004 election through electronic voting machines. We base this on hard evidence, documents obtained in public records requests, inside information, and other data indicative of manipulation of electronic voting systems. What we do not know is the specific scope of the fraud. We are working now to compile the proof, based not on soft evidence -- red flags, exit polls -- but core documents obtained by Black Box Voting in the most massive Freedom of Information action in history."

Meria Heller Show "Welcome to the real world, separate from the matrix of lies we were raised with and are constantly fed. Your support helps keep the show clean of corporate/sponsor corruption and dictums. Here is that 'safe' spot you were looking for to comfort your mind and soul that you are NOT alone. By supporting media that supports you and NOT supporting the corporate media machine, you are participating in your own freedom. Thank you so much for that, and enjoy the trip through the rabbit hole... "

Music for Change

Bruce Springsteen  "... As a songwriter, I've been writing about America for 30 years: who we are, what we stand for, what we fight for -- these ideas are what's at stake tomorrow. I believe our American government has drifted too far from American values: The human principles of economic justice, healing the sick, health care, feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, a living wage so folks don't have to break their backs and then come home and not be able to make ends meet, an open American government that's unburdened by unnecessary secrecy, protection of our environment, a sane and responsible foreign policy where we take our place amongst a community of nations, civil rights and the safeguarding of our precious Democracy here at home. This is what we're fighting for tomorrow. Now, nobody's got all of the answers to all of America's problems."

Music For America

  1. Give us some feedback
MfA is really all about you. You're who makes it happen and you're the reason why we're here and why we're going to keep it going in 2005. Tell us how to do a better job: Take the 2005 quick survey.

  2. Thank the Artists
The other group that MfA is all about are the artists who make our work possible and meaningful. If you'd like to thank any (or all) of the artists who've supported MfA this year, let Dan know and he'll pass your word on personally.

  3. Write a letter to the editor:
There's a lot of talk on TV and in the press saying that "the kids didn't show up." That's bull. Be polite, but firm. Click here to set 'em straight. Click here for a short video outlining how to write a succesful letter to the editor.

  4. Work a show:
There are still tons of good ones, and it feels good to get out and be with people. This is just the beginning, so get out there and enjoy some music.

  5. Be an MfA Team Leader. We have lots of work to do and we will always need eyes and ears on the ground all over the country. If you're a natural leader and you want to organize for change sign up here to be a Team Leader--we'll give you the tools and support to turn your ideas into action. You might even get high school or college credit for it.

  6. Join the MfA Street Team. It will be more important than ever to maintain the MfA street network. If you know your town like the back of your hand and love to talk to people, then join the MfA Street Team and help us spread the word.

More soon. We're gonna keep rock-rockin' it. Also, there's a new 2005 forum that could use some love. Talk amongst yourselves, and stand strong.

Dump and Run "We turn trash into cash for Nonprofits"

How Dump & Run Was Born

"Over the years, it has become accepted that the items we no longer have use for are trash. What millions of people fail to realize is that the concept of trash is based on our perception. Dump & Run is an effort to change that perception."

"We've all heard the phrase "One person's trash is another's treasure" but few people ever go so far as donating the items they no longer have use for. While at Syracuse University, Lisa Heller, the founder of Dump and Run, lost a ring that her grandmother had given her and decided to check the dumpster for it as a last resort. She never found the ring, but was amazed at what she did find. Upon looking in the dumpster Lisa found many perfectly usable items that had been discarded by students. She found, clothing, furniture, lamps, approximately enough canned food to feed a family of four for a week and even a cigar box full of rare stamps, one of which was worth $400.00."

"Lisa was awestruck by the amount of usable items being sent to the landfill. For the rest of her stay at Syracuse and her first year at the University of Richmond, Lisa saved as many things as she could from the dumpsters. She kept some items for herself, and took the balance of the items and donated them to Goodwill Industries. Her second year at Richmond she collected so many things that she had a lawn sale of her own to raise money for the University debate team and again gave the remaining portion to Goodwill. During her third year at Richmond, Lisa was very active in the Sierra Club, and with the help of both Richmond's on and off campus chapters she organized an official effort to collect and sell the recyclable items. The proceeds from the sale resulted in a sizable donation to the Sierra Club. By 2000, the second year of Lisa's official effort, the awareness within the campus community about Dump & Run had increased so dramatically that discarded items at the end of the school year had decreased by approximately 50%."

We give citizens the information and tools they need to get involved on important issues like reducing air pollution from cars and power plants, keeping dangerous pesticides out of our food, limiting nuclear arms and making our country more secure. Our alerts tell you how to contact politicians and corporate officials and quickly and easily tell them you’re watching them on an urgent issue. Best of all, we engage activists through creative online and offline strategies and make it fun! 20/20 Vision promotes democracy by involving the public at critical decision points."

American PIE "... is dedicated to developing and administering action programs which help build a more informed, environmentally responsible, activist citizenry in the United States. The environmental mission of American PIE rests on the premise that building public awareness is the most effective of all the long-term forces for change."

Earthrights International "... combines the power of law and the power of people in defense of human rights and the environment, our earth rights. Earth rights are those rights that demonstrate the connection between human well-being and a sound environment, and include the right to a healthy environment, the right to speak out and act to protect the environment, and the right to participate in development decisions."

Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy  "...promotes resilient family farms, rural communities and ecosystems around the world through research and education, science and technology, and advocacy."

MoveOn "... is working to bring ordinary people back into politics. With a system that today revolves around big money and big media, most citizens are left out. When it becomes clear that our "representatives" don't represent the public, the foundations of democracy are in peril. MoveOn is a catalyst for a new kind of grassroots involvement, supporting busy but concerned citizens in finding their political voice. Our nationwide network of more than 2,000,000 online activists is one of the most effective and responsive outlets for democratic participation available today."

Turn the Tide! :
Nine Simple Actions to Save the Planet

Turn the Tide is a program created by the Center for a New American Dream. They turned to leading scientists and experts in the field of conservation to ask what first steps Americans should take to reduce global warming, conserve water and energy, and save wildlife and forest habitats.

The program was designed by narrowing the suggestions to:

  • actions that matter most and can be measured accurately, in order to demonstrate our impact with integrity
  • actions that are realistically achievable for most people, in order to have broad, meaningful appeal;
  • just nine actions, for a clear and manageable program.
  • When these nine basic actions are taken together by thousands of us, it has a significant impact on our environment.
  •  When these actions are reported and the cumulative impact publicized, increasing numbers of Americans will be inspired to drop in and make waves!

The Nine Actions

1. Skip a car trip each week

2. Replace one beef meal each week

3. Shift your shrimp consumption

4. Declare your independence from junk mail

5. Replace four standard light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights

6. Move the thermostat 3°F

7. Eliminate lawn and garden pesticides

8. Install an efficient showerhead and low flow faucet aerators

9. Inspire two friends
