New
Materials - New Media - New Art "....This
show was inspired by a visit to the Biennial exhibit at a famous
New York museum. (The name is withheld to protect the innocent.)
At the show, the Techno-Impressionist artists saw the latest in
cutting-edge art, embodying the use of high tech materials and
technology such as urethane, epoxy, vinyl, carnauba, and video.
Many of these pieces were "experimental art" that
resembled brightly colored entrails, an industrial accident, or
a picture from a venereal disease lecture.
"Further inspiration was
derived from the artists who produced mega-events such as
wrapping buildings and blowing up bridges...."

Dale
Chihuly:

Sparkles on the underside of slick,
moving wavelets rimmed with light, gently cupping an ephemeral
bit of living jelly in my hand, then turning to glimpse a
dazzling sight: corals, sponges, anemones, in a riot of soft
pinks, blazing reds, luminous oranges, all marked with the
disciplined wildness that I love in nature -
and in
the Seaforms.

Environmental
Art
Christo
and Jean-Claude "Christo & Jeanne- Claude's
works are entire environments, whether they are urban or rural.
The artists disrupt one part of the environment, In doing so, we
see and perceive the whole environment with new eyes and a new
consciousness.
The effect is astounding. To be in the presence of one of these
artworks is to have your reality rocked. You see things you have
never seen before. You also get to see the fabric manifest
things that cannot usually be seen like the wind blowing, or the
sun reflecting in ways it had not before.
The effect lasts longer than the actual work of art. Years after
every physical trace has been removed and the materials
recycled, original visitors can still see and feel them in their
minds when they return to the sites of the artworks.
There is no other way to describe that the feeling of that
effect other than to say it is magical."

Ghost mask:
One of a Series

"Welcome to our Circle! We are a theatre in
the round, a blazing bonfire that illuminates a
wooded clearing and pulses with the rhythm of
drums, a gallery in Soho, a quiet room where a
group of women tell stories about their lives, a
procession of masked dancers on Dia de los Muertes,
a man sitting at a computer with a lit candle
nearby, a woman who knots two pieces of white cord
together, saying what she is re-tying in her life
as she does it."
